Add your service-connected conditions and this VA disability calculator applies the official “VA math” combined rating formula (including the bilateral factor) to show your total disability rating and estimated 2026 monthly compensation.
Once this VA disability calculator gives your combined rating, it estimates your monthly payment from the 2026 VA compensation rates (effective December 1, 2025). For a veteran with no dependents:
Dependents (spouse, children, parents) raise these amounts. See the full 2026 VA disability pay chart for every rating and dependent combination. Rates: va.gov/disability/compensation-rates.
The VA doesn't simply add your disability percentages together. Instead, each condition is applied to the remaining “healthy” percentage of your body. For example, a 50% rating and a 30% rating don't equal 80% — they combine to 65%.
Example: 50% + 30%
Step 1: Start at 100% healthy
Step 2: Apply 50% → 50% remaining
Step 3: Apply 30% of 50% → 15%
Step 4: Total = 50% + 15% = 65% → rounds to 70%
Typical starting ratings shown. Individual ratings vary based on severity and evidence.
